Grief Survivors Group from Utica, NY. Meeting are held at The Good News Center, Utica, Weekly. There are 14 individuals who come on a regular basis. On June 10th they viewed The Bird House Project video, all of the participants loved the idea and wanted to build them right away. On June 17th they built the bird houses. Melissa Kehler, our facilitator, made a set of printed blueprints and she guided them through each piece.

Kris is a dynamic presenter who used the story of his son Blake's death as the backdrop for a powerful message about the importance of transforming loss into hope and service to others. The Birdhouse Project is an amazing tool for learning how to rebuild a life that has been disrupted by change. Using this “hands-on” project, we can each learn how to inventory our strengths, acknowledge our guilts and regrets, focus on our affirmations and personal goals. Every time one looks at their birdhouse, they are reminded of their personal strength and resiliency. It is a hands-on tool of HOPE.

The Bird House Project has been one of the most helpful tools I have in working with people who have grief and loss issues to heal. I tried it first with a group of teenage boys, thinking that they would present the toughest group to work with around grief and loss and they absolutely loved it. I have since used The Bird House Project with ages as young as 4 as well as with Seniors.
