Since co-creating The Birdhouse Project in 2009, Kris has shared his story of rebuilding more than 100 times. The metaphor of the birdhouse has been taught in social work programs on college campuses, as a keynote presentation at The Compassionate Friends regional conference in Omaha, NE, at the Association for Death Educators and Counselors conference in Miami, FL, and at the Students Against Destructive Decisions national conference in Chicago, IL.
Did you know you can bring The Birdhouse Project to your community?
If you represent a support group, school, church or professional organization interested in learning more about The Birdhouse Project, here are the formats we are currently offering:
The presentation is a one-hour introduction to the project as we relate our tragedies and how they temporarily paralyzed us in crisis. We share our stories openly and honestly, discuss some of the emotions that held us on that darkness and then show people how a series of deliberate, reflective steps can help them move forward out of their crises.
Throughout the presentation, each piece of the birdhouse takes on specific meaning, allowing the builder to contextualize his or her feelings in an orderly, constructive way. We share what went on our walls as we build a birdhouse.
Book A Presentation Time for Q&A will follow.
The workshop will include everything that a presentation does except that all attendees will actually be writing and building their own birdhouse. There are two types of birdhouses offered to build, a full size snap-together cardboard version and the wooden birdhouse.
Cardboard kits come pre-packaged and the workshop beginning to end takes about 2 hours. Using the wooden birdhouse requires more time for the actually building so a minimum of 3 hours is required.
Book A Workshop Time for Q & A will follow.
For a quote on either offering, please fill out the following form. We will contact you about availability and workshop pricing upon receipt of your request.
